This Website is devoted to images of wildlife and nature that I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph close to home and on my travels. My home is in Missouri where the four seasons can be enjoyed and a diverse landscape provides unlimited opportunities to explore. Being an amateur wildlife and nature photographer I’m very lucky to have a yard that backs to woods.
My passion for the outdoors, hiking, fishing and camping, started as a young child where it was always more fun to be outside. One of my first memories of photographing wildlife was when our Scout Troop went to the Boy Scout World Jamboree in Idaho and we made a stop at Yellowstone National Park. Using my Sabre 620 camera, I took a picture of a black bear. Not really that difficult since at that time visitors could feed bears from their cars. What were we thinking? I’m also a self-taught illustrator and spent a few years when I was younger illustrating wildlife using pen and ink and watercolors. It was another way to scratch my creative itch. During that time, I used the camera as a tool when researching subjects.
As family life got busier, the inks and paints dried up but I continued to get outdoors and enjoy nature and when possible, take a photograph or two. In 2008, I started wildlife and nature photography as a serious hobby. I’ve worked in the creative field for over 35 years and have access to photographers where I can ask questions and share experiences. This helped me get started. It’s fun to share with others that share your passion.
From my personal experience photographing outdoors I have learned that lighting conditions can change in minutes and that wildlife can disappear in seconds. It’s a matter of patience, being prepared and being in the right place. I always leave nature as I found it and do my best not to stress the wildlife. I’m a supporter of the St. Louis Zoo and Endangered Wolf Center, two places that provide excellent subjects and conditions where I can learn and practice my photography.
Enjoy the images. You may even see a place that you have visited which may spark a memory or inspire you. So, enjoy and thank you for visiting my site.
